The total volume of your body consists almost entirely of ….
empty space (a.k.a. vacuum)
vacuum: a space entirely devoid of matter.
Did you know that your body is a miniature version of the universe itself in terms of structure? Each atom is a tiny replica of a planet with other celestial bodies circling it through gravitational forces. Remarkably, between the components of the atoms (neutrons, protons, and electrons) there is a massive amount of empty space, just like there is a massive amount of empty space between the planets and other objects in space.
Your body consists of over 99.99% empty space
This “empty space” is not what we think of when we talk about what is between us and the the next closest object, because that area is filled with matter just like our bodies. In fact, on an atomic level, there is no meaningful designation between our bodies and the matter that surrounds us, or the matter that is contained within us.
Your manufactured cells
The nutrients you ingest form the cells of your body.
What elements make up your body?
You manufacture cells and these cells combine with your own personal colony of bacteria cells; the resulting merger is your body. Your body contains on average about 30 trillion human cells and 39 trillion bacteria.
You replace the microbiome in a new space within hours. You and your surrounding microbiome do not have a distinct barrier. Your biome is a part of you.
In addition, your microbiome combines with that of everyone around you, including animals. Therefore you are continuously changing as a physical entity on a cellular level as a result of moving through your environment. In fact, you should view yourself, your environment, and all other living things as one connected whole:
